Will it help me in any way with my PPL? |
In short, Yes! Flightschools loves to enroll pupils that are gliding
pilots, because they understand aviation so much better than somebody
who had just started out. In soaring they are also taught not to be
dependent on an engine, and they have a very good foundation for power
flying. Some flightschools give at least 10 hours of of the 40 hours
needed for a PPL if you have your Glider Pilot Liscense. Furthermore,
if the pilot converted to a motor glider, his chances are greater to
get even more hours of on his PPL. (15 hours @ R 900 per hour = R 13
500. 15 hours @ R 90 per hour = R 1350!) You may think of gliding as a
stepping stone, but you will soon realise that once you've tasted that
kind of freedom, you will always come back to soaring. Even if you can
fly a F15 or 747!
