We want to rephrase it and say: "Only a soarer knows the feeling!"
Bloemfontein Gliding Club, or BGC in short, is located
on the Eastern side of the New Tempe Airfield in Bloemfontein, South
Africa. (Latitude: 29° 2' 20" South Longitude: 26° 9' 30" East.
Elevation: 4526' (1380m))
The club has been operational
for several decades, and has a rich heritage of airmanship and
excellence. Bloemfontein Gliding Club also hosts the annual National
Gliding Championships.
This attracts pilots and visitors from all over South Africa, and even
beyond National borders. Dick Bradley and Soaring Safaris
also visits Bloemfontein Gliding Club for 4 months every year, to get
the maximum out of the Free State summer soaring conditions. Soaring
Safaris cater to soaring pilots from England, Germany, France, Russia,
South Africa, Austria and wherever you can find people who fly gliders
that want to escape winter or just do some real cross country flying.
Bloemfontein, being in the middle of South Africa, is
the hub of the Free State. Known for its amazing cloud formations and
"dust devils", Bloemfontein has some of the best conditions for
gliding throughout the whole year.
