BGC needs a webmaster
This website used to be maintained by me, Paul van Jaarsveld. I moved from Bloemfontein to Uganda and from Uganda to Jeffreys Bay and at the moment I have exchanged soaring for surfing. If there is anybody in the club that would be willing to keep the site up to date, please contact me on the contacts page. I will give you free training and the site is already built in such a way that you can update it from any internet connection. I have been struggling to get news etc. out of club members and it is very difficult to keep the site up to date if I have to nag for photos and news all the time. The best solotion is that there must be an active club member who does the updates. This site has also been hosted on my expense for the past few years.
Happy landings and congrats to the winners of the latest Dust Devil.
Paul.

Welcome to the Bloemfontein Gliding Club

According to IP records, this website is visited by people from 25 Nations every month. We want to give a special, warm, Freestate welcome to our friends from other countries!

We share your passion to fly! There is no other way to explain it. It has been said: "Only a surfer knows the feeling..." We want to rephrase it and say: "Only a soarer knows the feeling!"

Bloemfontein Gliding Club, or BGC in short, is located on the Eastern side of the New Tempe Airfield in Bloemfontein, South Africa. (Latitude: 29° 2' 20" South Longitude: 26° 9' 30" East. Elevation: 4526' (1380m))

The club has been operational for several decades, and has a rich heritage of airmanship and excellence. Bloemfontein Gliding Club also hosts the annual National Gliding Championships. This attracts pilots and visitors from all over South Africa, and even beyond National borders. Dick Bradley and Soaring Safaris also visits Bloemfontein Gliding Club for 4 months every year, to get the maximum out of the Free State summer soaring conditions. Soaring Safaris cater to soaring pilots from England, Germany, France, Russia, South Africa, Austria and wherever you can find people who fly gliders that want to escape winter or just do some real cross country flying.

Bloemfontein, being in the middle of South Africa, is the hub of the Free State. Known for its amazing cloud formations and "dust devils", Bloemfontein has some of the best conditions for gliding throughout the whole year.
